One Direction music review

   Midnight Memories
What is the first thing you think of when you hear One Direction? Well obviously you think of the handsome, famous, and cute One Direction. But how did they really get famous? One Direction or 1D were a part of the hit T.V show X-factor UK. In the beginning of the 2010 x-factor UK Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson. Liam Payne, and Nail Horan all auditioned as separate candidates but Simon, one of the judges of the x-factor didn't want their talent go to waste. So Simon put the 5 young vocalists together and this marked the beginning of One Direction.  The one and only reason I chose to do 1D is because of all the people that think they're cute and good vocalists.

Lyrics: The lyrics that One Direction make aren't like other lyrics. They have a meanings and have their own "story" behind them.  For example lets take the song Story Of My Life. The songs lyrics talk about a girl and how "he" (past tense) did things for her but in the end she dumped him. Also there is the song Best Song Ever. This song talks about how a boy met a girl and they danced to the "best song ever". The boy forgot how the song went and would never forget the feeling he got when he danced with her.  Overall I don't really like the lyrics that One Direction make up. They're repetitive, almost always about a girl and guy, and never stop. By this I mean that the song could go on forever from one verse to the next.  Therefore the song would be endless.

Good things about Midnight Memories: While I was listing to their album Midnight Memories while I was doing my homework. The songs were a calm and relaxing tone. The songs didn't overpower my thinking trail, so that allowed me to focus on my homework.  It would be a good idea to listen to this album while relaxing or doing homework. Also the album had some great songs in it. They were catchy and were 'easy to get in your head'. One that really got in my head was 'Story of my Life' and 'Best song ever'. Another thing about the album is that it has a lot of songs in it. In total the album has 18 songs! The average number of songs an album has is 13. This means that you get an extra 5 songs for this album! Lastly, the songs were related. Most of the songs were calm and soft, so they created a nice album.

Bad things about Midnight Memories: This album was extremely long. The average album is 40 minutes long but this album is an whopping 59:43 minutes! I expected the album to be about 45 minutes because of the repetitive lyrics but it was 14 minutes more! Not only does the album have 18 songs but its very lengthy and repeats most of the lyrics 3 or more times! When you listen to an album do you listen to every song in order or just skip to the songs you like? I always skip to the songs I like. If you're like me then you would understand my next thought. About half of the songs went by in a blur. The 2 songs everyone knows start off the album. All the other songs I have never heard of. You should spread the two 'popular' songs throughout the album even if its only 2 songs.

Overall the album wasn't good but it wasn't bad. If I were to critique the album on a scale from 1-10 I would give it a 6/10. The songs were related, had lots of variety, and were relaxing, but there were more bad things than good things. All the songs repeated lyrics, and the album itself was time consuming. I wouldn't recommend this album to anyone unless you enjoy repetitive, long, and relaxing songs.

  1. So, what you are saying is that the majority of the songs on the album are pretty forgettable. What's the point of putting 18 songs on an album if half of them are virtually identical and don't stand out?
Good review Ryan. Where were the audio clips or the pictures that should have been in the post? You mentioned two songs that you liked quite a bit, but didn't link to them so I could hear them.

    14/20
