Is social media helpful to our society?

Social media has its helpful at times but when people dedicate most of their time to social media, that's when things get out of hand. Social media has it's pros and cons. They are not completely balanced but are fairly even.

Pros: To start off I will say that I am a firm supporter of social media. It has saved me a few times if I have forgotten something at school I can ask one of my friends through social media to get the information I need.
I don't do this every often but if I ever forget I can rely on social media. This doesn't mean that I constantly ask my friends for things but I know that I have "insurance". Another time I used social media was to do school projects (like science labs). I would ask my partner(s) to get Skype so that we could work together on the project. I never get social media like Facebook because I think that Facebook is only for sharing what you would do on a daily basis. If I ever get Facebook it would only be because everyone that is in my group for a project has it and they don`t have Skype.


Cons: I didn't mention this in the pros section but the main reason I don't have Facebook is because of the creepy stalker people. ANYONE on earth can search up your name and find out stuff about you. I remember we had presentations on Facebook and how there were settings that could keep yourself  hidden but I also remember reading on the news that they took theses settings out. I am not sure if they implemented this yet but I am not taking the chance. Also I think that social media is the main cause of hackers. I have never been hacked because I am mostly careful of who I talk to and what I say to them. Lots of people have been hacked due to their inappropriate language or attitude toward something. Also social media causes problems like cyber-bullying. This is another reason I don't have Facebook but have Skype. On Skype you talk to each other so that I can at least get some kind of idea as to who I was talking to me. I am not hating of Facebook I am using Facebook as an example.

Conclusion: Like I said, I am a firm supporter in social media. It has saved me many times if I forgot things at school but I try not to forget because if I get lazy and always ask my friends for things, in the future they won't give me the information that I need.
